I’m a digital editor for a magazine called Baking Heaven. Though Baking Heaven is first and foremost a print magazine, the publishing industry and the wider relationship between print and digital is shifting. There’s a growing understanding that digital (and from a commercial point of view, digital revenue) is key to supporting the future of print, and I feel lucky to be working in digital for a business that’s repositioning themselves and investing in this area.
Though perhaps a bit of a cliche, no two days are the same.
Day-to-day, my job is to look after everything digital associated with the title. From website maintenance to content sourcing and creation, social media management, email marketing - I manage all of Baking Heaven’s online presence!
A large part of the role is working with my ad manager on client campaigns, supporting new issue launches, writing fun articles, social scheduling and newsletter building. I also receive a lot (as in, heaps) of press releases and outreach emails from PR reps and marketing people… so it’s also fair to say that time is definitely spent filtering the wheat from the chaff with these!
Though perhaps a bit of a cliche, no two days are the same. Sure, the fundamental processes stay the same, but publishing (digital especially) means that you’re always working on current themes in interesting areas. And in my case, that means writing about a lot of cake. Always a winner!
